REPUBLIC OF
PERILO VOLUNTARY AND NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS WITH DISASTER ROLES
PERILO RED DIAMOND: The Perilo Red
Diamond is the national member organization of the International Federation of
Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Red
Diamond Chapters are located in all Class I and II cities. The
Red Diamond:
- Provides first aid training for the general
populace in basic and advanced first aid certificate courses.
- Organizes first aid squads for community
response.
- Assists disaster victims including
sheltering and mass care.
- Augments the emergency medical care system
with volunteer staff during periods of emergency.
- Manages a national disaster welfare inquiry
system to assist in determining the location and status of disaster victims.
THE SALVATION ARMY: The Salvation
Army operates citadels in Georgetown and Glencoe. Salvation Army disaster
response includes:
- Sheltering and feeding disaster victims,
including from a mobile kitchen stationed in Glencoe and from the Citadels
in Georgetown and Glencoe.
- Providing grief counseling and pastoral
care.
THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF PERILO: The
Humane Society provides services to animals and animal owners through its
facilities in the Class I and Class II cities. Disaster response
activities include:
- Animal sheltering and feeding through
community shelters in all cities and towns.
- Four animal rescue teams.
- Two disaster veterinary care teams.
- Reuniting lost animals with their owners in
the aftermath of disasters.
THE SOCIETY OF MORTICIANS: The
Society of Morticians provides disaster mass fatality services in support of the
Chief Medical Examiner including:
- Provision of a mass fatality mortician team
with a mobile mass fatality trailer, stored at the Society's offices in
Glencoe, to augment the staff of the Chief Medical Examiner at disaster
sites.
- Support to morticians in disaster areas
through volunteer augmentation of mortuary staffs to assist in meeting
increased requirements for funerals.
