REPUBLIC OF PERILO TOURISM HIGHWAY POLICE

The Tourism Highway Police is a law enforcement agency of the Department of Tourism within the Ministry of TradeThe mission of the Tourism Highway Police is to provide for the safety of tourists and others travelling on the Transnational Highway and on other highways used by visitors to the Republic.  In practice this means that the Tourism Highway Police patrol the Transnational Highway (Highway 1 from the northern border through Fort Wellesley to Glencoe and then west to the Great Muddy River Bridge at Hogben), the Eastern Highway (Highway 2 from Glencoe to the eastern border past Zanzibar), and the two major Defense Highways (Highway 3 from Glencoe to Georgetown and Highway 5 from Glencoe to Portsmouth).  A 6 member headquarters staff is located in Glencoe in the offices of the Ministry of Trade.  Each of the highways is covered by a Detachment commanded by a First Sergeant.

Tourism Highway Police officers patrol sections of the Highway assigned to their detachment to assist motorists in distress and to prevent and investigate crime directed at visitors to the Republic.  Each detachment is based at a Constabulary Barracks within the detachment's area of responsibility, although individual officers typically live within their patrol area.  The Police use the Constabulary's low band very high frequency communications system.  Highway signs on the four numbered highways provide the telephone number of the nearest Constabulary Barracks as an emergency number for reporting highway incidents.

The Tourism Highway Police issues a four wheel drive vehicle to each officer, and these vehicles carry a 36 unit first aid kit, basic rescue tools, basic vehicle repair tools and supplies, and an accident investigation kit.  In addition, each detachment operates a single first aid wagon, with a crew of two officers, that is stationed within the detachment area based on current accident trends and available emergency medical services coverage.  All members of the Tourism Highway Police are qualified at the Advanced First Aid level.
