The Air Force maintain the sovereignty of the airspace of the Republic, conducts air combat operations in support of national objectives, and assists other departments of the government in the achievement of their missions as appropriate. The Air Force is divided into three major functional commands.
HEADQUARTERS COMMAND: Headquarters Command provides central direction and management for the operations of the Air Force and provides centralized support services to the two troop commands.

AIR DEFENSE COMMAND: The 1st Interceptor Squadron, augmentation from the 6th Flying Training Squadron, and Air Force Troops of Air Defense operate in a joint Army-Air Force Air Defense Command with the Army's Missile and Gun Defenses of designated cities and the Coast Artillery defending the ports of Portsmouth and Petroport. Coordination of defense against air attacks is conducted by the Air Defense Control and Reporting Center.
TROOPS OF AIR DEFENSE: Troops of Air Defense are responsible for the active ground based defense of military installations against enemy air attack. The Troops of Air Defense also operate the radar system for the detection, tracking, and identification of aircraft, and the Air Force command and control system.

AIR SEARCH AND RESCUE AUXILIARY: The Air Search and Rescue Auxiliary operates under the operational and tactical control of the Air Force, with training provided by the 4th Air Rescue Squadron. Auxiliary members serve on Air Militia active duty status when performing search and rescue missions or conducting search and rescue training using their own privately owned aircraft. The Auxiliary is a volunteer organization with members holding appointments as Air Militia Pilot Officers for aircraft pilots and as Sergeants for observers.
